I saw that. At first, I wondered why people really needed to be told that. Then I remembered that people are stupid.

Problem of course is that most of those people are nicely blown up. Maybe they get a nice posthumous medal or something.

I dunno, I actually admire his noble instincts. There are countless stories out there of multiple lives being saved thanks to one quick-thinking soldier’s sacrifice. Of course the authorities have to advise against this, but that doesn’t make it an inherently wrong or stupid thing to do.

true enough.... but i think... when its just you.. and a grenade thats hissing at you.... running away is a perfectly nobel decision
(but then... ive been pretty much trained to get the fuck out if it looks like things will go kablooey... bonus points for telling everyone else nearby to get the fuck out too.......course... falling on a 60inch acetalyne tank thats about to blow wont help much anyway)

and don’t take it to the police station, tell them where it is and they’ll come to you.
https://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/16697833.bomb-disposal-experts-called-to-carlisle-police-station/
Army bomb disposal experts from north Yorkshire were called to the scene to defuse any threat.
Cumbria Constabulary has confirmed that a partial evacuation of its north Cumbria headquarters complex had to be carried out.
The drama unfolded on Saturday afternoon, at around 5pm, when a person turned up at the front counter of the station with the shell.
Cumbria Police confirmed that the device was made safe by 7pm.
Apparently a civilian aid that works on reception alerted armed response for advice, who said to evacuate everyone from the building and her reply was, ‘should I take it to the car park?’, their reply was to not touch it but to get out.
It turned out to be some old training grenade.

And one guy on top of a bomb that could do that wouldn’t do a thing. A bomb small enough that his body could absorb the impact would only be able to hurt people in the immediate vicinity, and it sounds like he was all alone in his yard.

Ye’, wear a live camera so we all can see when you do it.
I say live camera as I don’t think you’ll be available to the outside world for a short while to upload it after the fact, especially after they look through how you procured it, etc... lol.

Found some more info . Turns out h e was walking his dog, saw something “shiny”, picked it up, and that’s when it started “ hissing” .
“When he called the emergency services, they said that he had to hold on to the grenade and not move. At one point he just lay down”, she said to L1.
The girlfriend denies previous reports that the grenade was found during excavation works on Tuesday and that the man lay down on the grenade for safety reasons. “He really did not want to commit suicide”, she said to the regional broadcaster.
Oh, and the large number of evacuees is due mainly there being
some
apartment buildings close by.
Here
’s the general location
mention
ed in
the article.

O ne of my father’s students, (he was a high school biology teacher for 40 years ,) brought what we think was a anti-aircraft round to school one day causing quite a scene. Turned out there was no powder in the casing...
